Different tactics work for different websites. Website owners who use Google adsense as a majot means of income can do well to manage and increase their income from it.
You need to keep a trend on your monthly earnings and know how much you are currently making from adsense. You also need to decide how much you want to be making from it. Suppose you are currently making $200 from the programme every month, then you need to know which pages that are actuall earning you that income by looking at your log files and adding that particular page to google adsense channels. You can also use Google webmaster tools to track popular searches about you site and try to increase your position on the search results. Remember, the first result receives more traffic that the 10th one so add more content, incoming links and move your page upwards in the search results . That is a bit of seo work but it will certainly increase your earnings. You don't need to have many keywords leading to your site, optimization is the main thing.
If you were making $200 per month and want to increase your adsense earnings to $2000, then you need to know the variable factors which you can influence to increase to $2000. Such factors may include page ranking, amount of page content, page design(Do people like you page?), sites linking to your page and so on. You will need to increase them by a common factor like 10 to get the $2000 target. You need to understand what makes your earnings to tick and work on them 10 times to get to that number. For instance, having more blogs rather than one can help increase your earnings.

I am only making about $5 per month on my blog which has been up for about 2 years now. I don't know what i am doing wrong. i write every week and i only post my thoughts about life issues
